We aim to bring people together for a community wide reading experience which will get our community talking, foster community spirit, promote tolerance and understanding and develop appreciation for reading as the gateway that makes all other learning possible.

Lecture series for One Cavan, One Writer at Johnston Central Library, Cavan Town

We have an exciting lecture series planned, linked to our One Cavan, One Writer themes. The lecture series starts in October 2011 and ends in April 2012. 

We are delighted to announce our first lecture: Brian Keenan in conversation with Dermot Bolger inJohnston Central Library on Thursday 13th October at 7pm.

In conversation with Dermot Bolger, who will read a short selection of poems, Brian Keenan discusses how an ordinary life can be hijacked by political conflict, what inner strength he drew on during his captivity and how these events have shaped his life and his writing.
Bookings for this lecture will be taken from Saturday 24th September. Bookings are essential.

  • Launch of One Cavan, One Writer Creative Writing Competition
  • Drama Performance by young, professional Cavan actors: Extracts from Siobhan Dowd’s “Bog Child”
  • Launch of Resource Packs for Educational Agencies incl. Schools
  • Launch of Social Media for One Cavan, One Writer
